As you will be aware from Headteacher letters and the school newsletter, the school has been reviewing its homework policy recently. Governors, teachers, parents and children have all been consulted on the new policy which you can read by following this link.

You will be aware that we have trialled independent learning booklets for both KS3 and KS4 this year and these have been well received by parents wanting to know what they can do to support the development of good study habits and learning away from the classroom.

The basis of the revised policy centres on what research from the Education Endowment Foundation suggests - working on meaningful tasks away from the classroom adds consistently to the progress that children make. With this in mind we will continue to set homework when it is relevant, focussed and an integral part of learning and this will be put on Show My Homework. We will also ask children to pick tasks from the independent learning booklets so that they develop their independent study skills, but the booklet is there for parents and children to access whenever they feel it will be useful and help their learning by doing additional tasks. Students will be rewarded for completing tasks.

Both the booklets are on the website in the students and parents section and they will be updated and improved over the summer for next year.

If you would like to feedback on the draft policy please feel free to email Mr Williets on
