The Governing Body of Stopsley High School welcomes you to our school website and hopes that you find it interesting and informative.
The Governing Body plays an important role in the life of Stopsley High, helping to set the direction and ethos of the school. Additionally, we are responsible for ensuring that the school meets any relevant legal requirements. We do this by creating, and keeping under review, a policy framework that allows the Headteacher and staff to remain firmly in control of the day to day running of the school.
Governors are all trained volunteers, with the Governing Body representing the school's key stakeholders: elected staff, elected parents and the local community (mainly local people with particular skills and knowledge to contribute). I have been involved with the school since 1999. I became a Chair of Governors 6 years ago. We are fortunate to have a broad range of experience on the Governing Body.
The Governing Body is divided into 3 committees: Curriculum and Personnel, Buildings, Finance and Resources and Strategic Development. This ensures that we are able to monitor activities in school and do our best to be a critical friend. In practice, although the Governing Body and each of its main sub-committees meet twice every term, governors find that a valuable and enjoyable part of the job is visiting during the working day to develop their understanding of the school and to talk with the staff and students.
We work with the school to make sure that the needs of the whole school community are satisfied and that Stopsley High School is a happy, safe and stimulating environment for the students and that they will look back on their school days as the best days of their lives.
